International Wave of Light Day
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Today October 15th is International Wave of Light Day, where individuals, families and supporting friends light a candle in recognition and memory of the embryos, babies and children we’ve lost.
Sunnybrook Hospital Health Sciences Centre’s Pregnancy & Infant Loss (PAIL) Network will host IN-PERSON and ONLINE Wave of Light events.

ONLINE EVENT
Join Sunnybrook’s PAIL (Pregnancy And Infant Loss) Network on October 15, 2024 for a virtual memorial ceremony at 6:45 pm, followed by the International Wave of Light at 7 pm. Candles will be lit during the ceremony to honour the babies we have lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, medical termination, abortion, and infant death.
People participate in this event in every time zone across the world at 7 pm your local time, creating a 24-hour Wave Of Light around the globe.
Our ceremony will officially end at 7:15 pm, however, everyone is welcome to stay and watch the candles, or leave a message to their babies and to others in the pail community.

IN-PERSON EVENT
Join PAIL Network volunteers on Tuesday, October 15 in the following communities for a memorial ceremony and the International Wave of Light at 7 pm. Families participate in every time zone across the world at 7 pm local time, creating a 24-hour Wave Of Light around the globe.
PAIL Network volunteers will light a community candle during the ceremony to honour the babies we have lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, medical termination, abortion and infant death. People are encouraged to bring their own memorial candle to light, and any mementos, stuffed animals, blankets, etc., that help them feel close and connected to their baby’s memory. (Some indoor locations only allow flameless candles; please see below for details). Thank you for sharing your babies with us.
